Born to a catalan father and french mother, Jordi Bitlloch was born in 1984 and grew up in Perpignan in southern France. At the age of six, following in the footsteps of his sisters (both musicians and members of the Elias
Quartet), he started learning the piano and the violin, and three years later entered the Conservatory at Perpignan, which he would leave in 1999 after completing the piano, violin, chamber music and theory/solfege courses with the highest grades. In that year he left his homeland after being offered a place to work with Ruth Nye, a pupil of Claudio Arrau's, at the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School on England, which gave him the opportunity to perform in London's top venues and to work with such artists as Claude Franck, Jeremy Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Dora Schwarzberg or Carole Cerasi. In September 2004, after graduating from the Menuhin School, he entered the University of Arts in Berlin, where he is studying with Pascal Devoyon. He is winner of the "Aujourd'hui musiques" competition for contemporary music and of the Jelinek Award.
