Ka-Hyun Kim, born on January 18th 1989 in South Korea, began to play the piano at the age of seven. The family moved to Prague where she started piano lessons in 1996,, under pianist Jan Simon and Ivana Girsova.
She has won various junior international competitions in Czech Republic including Amedeus 1998. After three years, she continued her studies at the Pre-school of the ‘Hochschule fuer Musik und darstellende Kunst, Wien’ under Professor Elisabeth Dvorak Weisshaar. Two years later, in 2001, the family moved to Amsterdam, where Ka-Hyun was accepted in the Young-Talent division of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she had lessons under Prof. Marcel Baudet, with whom she still studies with. Ka-Hyun also took part in Master-classes with Jacques Rouvier, Galina Vracheva, Elisabeth Eschwe, Igor Roma, and Pascal Devoyon. Furthermore, she participated in lessons with Christopher Elton, Ruth Nye, David Dolan (improvisation), and Carole Cerasi (harpsichord).
In April 2003, Ka-Hyun became the first prize winner during the national final of the Princess Christina Concours (PCC) in the Netherlands. Through the Concours, she had many chances to perform in various concerts including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In November 2003, she performed concerts in Zurich and Liechtenstein invited by the Dutch Ambassador in Bern. In 2004, she took part in the PCC Chopin Marathon and the Master-classes for Young String Players and Pianist held in Austria with David Kuijken. In December 2004, she won 3rd prize in the National YPF Piano Concours organized by the Young Pianist Foundation in the Netherlands. Since 2005, Ka Hyun studies at the Yehudi Menuhin School as a full scholarship student and takes part in many festivals and concerts in UK and abroad. Currently she is performing actively as a soloist as well as an ensemble player. She has performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto as well as the Carnival of the Animals and recently she has performed with the Residentie Orkest in The Hague under Neeme Järvi. Ka Hyun will continue her studies from October 2008 at the ‘Universität der Künste Berlin’ under Pascal Devoyon.
